It is estimated that 30,000 children
live on the streets in Bogotá, Colombia, that 43% of
children under the age of 18 live in poverty and 21% live
in extreme poverty.
The Foundation partners with the Center for Child's
Reintegration and Attention (CRAN) in Bogotá Colombia.
CRAN was founded in 1978 and is a licensed child protection
organization. The Foundation works closely with CRAN to protect
children under the age of ten whom the government has removed
from their biological families because of situations of abandonment,
neglect, mistreatment or abuse.
Alliance For Children has partnered with CRAN for over 30 years to provide:
Biological Family Protection Program
The program benefits 80 children between the ages of 2 to 7 living at the CRAN facility where they receive good nutrition, medical care, therapy and education. They live in an environment that will protect them from social ills which allows them to grow and thrive physically and emotionally.
Foster Care Family Protection
CRAN's foster care program offers 90 children between the
ages of 0-6 years a safe and loving non-institutional environment
with well-monitored foster families.
These foster families provide the children with the opportunity to bondwith caring adults who will meet their physical and emotional needs.
Pregnant Women Protection
Through this program, CRAN houses approximately 25 pregnant women (80-100 per year) and provides them with shelter, nutrition, medical care, skill building, and counseling to help mothers make a decision on whether to keep and raise her baby or place the baby for adoption.
Kindergarten Program
Through the kindergarten program, CRAN promotes the emotional and physical development of 55 children between the ages of 3-5 years. They are provided with nutrition and the opportunity for a quality introduction to education and a safe, fun environment to learn. They come from the poorest and most vulnerable families. CRAN also provides assistance to the families of the children in order to avoid conditions in their family which could result in the children being removed from the home.
THE FOUNDATION'S MISSION FOR COLOMBIA IS BASED
ON THE FOLLOWING CONCEPTS:
Every child has the right to early childhood nutrition, medical care and education. If children receive intervention early they will develop learning skills, social skills and coping skills which will allow them to be contributing members of society. These key elements will allow children to reach their full potential.
